Until recently I didn’t realize this was a “thing”

Now there are radiators and intercoolers mounted to the outside of bumpers all over.

There is a very fine line between ‘’carefully engineered to look ratty’’ and ‘’too lazy for proper installation’’. This one falls clearly in the second category.

I am sorry, but “carefully engineered to look ratty” is something that never sat right with me. Because if it’s carefully engineered, it’s not a rat. So even though the former category might hold the better cars (even that isn’t necesarily true), the latter is a much more honest stance.

I don’t hate it. I’d probably relocate the oil cooler and build a grille around the IC, but I can see what they were going for.

No but it can be made to look like a ratty beater, which is an art in itself:

Not giving a fuck about your car’s look isn’t the same thing as carefully working on it so it look like it has been neglected (which is part of the rat rod’s appeal... They look like junk, but is you look at them carefully you see a lot of little details)
